Colossians 3:23 (NKJV) 23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men,

This week about tying it all together…  What happens in a study like this?

1.  I become overwhelmed.

Isaiah 6:5 (NKJV) So I said: “Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, The LORD of hosts.”

Romans 7:18 (NKJV) For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find.

2.  I am tempted to quit.

Galatians 6:9 (NKJV) And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.

3.  I develop pride in what “I”  have done.

1 Corinthians 1:26–29 (NKJV) 26 For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. 27 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; 28 and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, 29 that no flesh should glory in His presence.

Encouragement for the journey…

Hebrews…  13 exhortations in 12 verses…

1.  Hebrews 4:1 (NKJV) 1 Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it.

2.  Hebrews 4:11 (NKJV) 11 Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience.

3.  Hebrews 4:14 (NKJV) 14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.

4.  Hebrews 4:16 (NKJV) 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

5.  Hebrews 6:1 (NKJV) 1 Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God,

6.  Hebrews 10:22 (NKJV) 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

7.  Hebrews 10:23 (NKJV) 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.

8.  Hebrews 10:24 (NKJV) 24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works,

9.  Hebrews 12:1a (NKJV) 1 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us,

10. Hebrews 12:1b (NKJV) and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,

11. Hebrews 12:28 (NKJV) 28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.

12. Hebrews 13:13 (NKJV) 13 Therefore let us go forth to Him, outside the camp, bearing His reproach.

13. Hebrews 13:15 (NKJV) 15 Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.

I have decided to follow Jesus

SERMON NOTES: VOCATIONAL HEALTH

FACING GIANTS IN LIFE & WORK
50 Days of Transformation
7th Key—Your Life Work
Pastor Sip
September 25, 2014

1 SAMUEL 17:1-52
`“Now the Philistines had gathered their forces for war...  They occupied one hill and the Israelites another, with the valley between them.  A champion named Goliath, from Gath, came out of the Philistine camp.  He was a giant of a man, over nine feet tall, wearing a huge bronze helmet, and a coat of bronze armor that weighed over 125 pounds, He also wore bronze leggings, and slung a huge bronze javelin over his back, The iron spearhead alone weighed 15 pounds, and a solider with a large shield always walked in front of Goliath.”   (vs. 1-7)

I.      LESSONS FROM DAVID FACING GOLIATH
*David had to face other “Giants” before he faced
       Goliath.

II.  THE OTHER ‘GIANTS’ DAVID HAD TO FACE

1.  DELAY: HIS DAD HELD HIM BACK.
“Now David was the youngest of Jesse’s eight sons...  His three older brothers enlisted in Saul’s army...  but David was held back to care for the sheep in Bethlehem.”  (vs.  12-15)

2.    DISCOURAGEMENT: EVERYONE WAS AFRAID!
“Each day Goliath would stand and shout at the ranks of
Israel’s army, ‘Why do you come out here and line up for
battle?...  Choose one man to fight me.  If he’s able to kill
me, we will become your subjects; but if I kill him, you’ll
become our subjects and serve us.’  Day after day Goliath
taunted them saying ‘This day I defy the ranks of Israel!’
When Saul and the Israelites heard this, everyone was
deeply shaken and paralyzed with fear.  (vs. 8-11)

“For forty days, twice a day, morning and evening, the Philistine giant loudly berated the Israelite army.”       (vs. 16)

“As David talked with his brothers on the front line, he saw Goliath start shouting his usual threats to Israel’s army.  When the army heard Goliath, they all ran away in terror.”
            (vs. 23-24)

3.  DISAPPROVAL: HIS BROTHER QUESTIONED HIS
                                    MOTIVES.
“David asked, ‘What’s the reward for killing this Philistine and ending this disgraceful abuse?’...  When David’s older brother heard this he burned with anger at David and said ‘Why are YOU even here anyway?  Why aren’t you taking care of your scrawny little flock of sheep?  You cocky little brat.  I know how conceited you are!’ ‘Now what have I done?’  said David.  ‘Can't I even ask a question?’" (vs. 28-29)

4.  DOUBT:THE EXPERT DOUBTED HIS ABILITY.
“‘Don't worry about a thing,’ David told the King, ‘I'll fight this Philistine!’ ‘Don't be ridiculous!’ Saul replied.  ‘There’s no way YOU can go against this Philistine!  You’re only a boy, and he’s been a professional warrior all his life!’”          (vs. 32-33)

HOW TO DEFEAT GIANTS

1.     REMEMBER HOW GOD’S HELPED ME IN THE
      PAST!
In protecting my sheep, I’ve killed both a lion and a bear...  The Lord who delivered me from the teeth of that lion, and the claws of that bear, will surely now deliver me from this Philistine too!” (vs. 36-37)

2.  USE THE TOOLS GOD HAS GIVEN ME NOW!
Then Saul dressed David in his own armor...  But David said, ‘I cannot go out in these, because I’m not used to them.’ So he took them off...  Instead he chose 5 smooth stones for his sling.”  (vs. 38-40)

3.  IGNORE THE DREAMBUSTERS!
“ ...  When others were speaking against him, David encouraged himself in the Lord.”
       1 Sam. 30:6

4.  EXPECT GOD TO HELP ME FOR HIS GLORY!
“David shouted to Goliath ‘You come at me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord Almighty!...Today the Lord will conquer you...  and the whole world will know that there is a God!  And everyone will know that the Lord doesn’t need weapons to rescue his people.  It is his battle, not ours.  The Lord will give you to us!’”

       (vs. 45-47)

SERMON NOTES: FINANCIAL HEALTH

TRANSFORMING HOW I SEE & USE MONEY
50 Days of Transformation – Part 6 (Financial Health)
Pastor Gary, September 21, 2014

Story of the Shrewd Manager: Luke 16:1-13

WHAT NOT TO DO WITH MONEY

1.               DON’T WASTE IT.
“The manager was accused of wasting his master’s possession.”  Luke 16:2

2.               DON’T LOVE IT OR LIVE FOR IT.
“No servant can serve two masters.  Either he will hate the one, and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other.  You cannot serve both God and money.”
                  Luke 16:13

3.               DON’T TRUST IT FOR SECURITY.
“What am I going to do now?  I’m losing my job...”  Luke 16:3

“Your money can be gone in a flash, as if it had grown wings and flown away like an eagle.”         Pr. 23:5 (TEV)

4.               DON’T EXPECT IT TO SATISFY.
“Whoever loves money will never have enough, and whoever loves      wealth will never be satisfied with his income” Ecc. 5:10

"Guard against all kinds of greed because your life is not measured by how much you own." Luke 12:15

WHAT TO REMEMBER EVERYDAY

1.               IT ALL BELONGS TO GOD.
“(The Owner) enlisted a manager to take care of HIS property.”

2.       GOD IS USING MONEY TO TEST ME.

o It shows what I love most.
"Don't store up treasure here on earth....  Instead, store your treasures in heaven...  for wherever your treasure is, that’s where your heart will be.”  MT.  6:19-21 (NLT)

o It shows what I trust.
“If you trust in your money, you will fall, but if you trust in God,
you’ll flourish like a green tree.”        Pr. 11:28 (NLT)

o It SHOWS if God can trust me.
“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.  If you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?  And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else's property, who will give you property of your own?”
           Luke 16:11-12

3.               MONEY IS A TOOL TO BE USED FOR GOD’S PURPOSES.
“I tell you, ‘use your worldly wealth!’” Luke 16:9a

o HE looked ahead. (vs.  3)
“The wise man looks ahead.  The fool attempts to fool himself and won't face facts.”                                                      Pr. 14:8 (LB)

                                    o HE made a plan.(vs.  4)
“We should make plans--counting on God to direct us.”                 Pr. 16:9 (LB)

o HE accyed quickly. (vs.  5-6)

4.  THE BEST USE IS TO USE IT GETTING PEOPLE TO HEAVEN.
Jesus:I tell you, use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, they will welcome you into your eternal dwelling.”  Luke 16:9

5.  ONE DAY I’LL GIVE AN ACCOUNT TO GOD.
You must now give me an account of your stewardship and report   what you’ve done with what I entrusted to you because your time as a manager is ending!Luke 16:2

6.  IF I’M FAITHFUL WITH LITTLE, GOD CAN TRUST ME WITH MORE.
“To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance.”  Mt. 25:29 (NLT)
